Team Lead Software Engineer (Java)

Project overview

We are hiring a Team Lead Software Engineer (Java) to join Capitolis — a technology company shaping safer and more efficient global financial markets by unlocking capital constraints and expanding access to diversified investment opportunities.

At Capitolis, you will lead and grow a team of talented engineers while remaining deeply hands-on in building complex, large-scale Capital Markets products used by leading global banks and institutional investors. Working at the intersection of advanced technology and financial expertise, you will play a key role in designing, scaling, and evolving mission-critical systems that power Capitolis’ Capital Marketplace.

In this role, you will be responsible for both technical leadership and people leadership. You will architect high-quality, reusable backend systems using Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, PostgreSQL, and AWS-based microservices, while also guiding frontend development in collaboration with designers and product stakeholders. You will work closely with Product Managers, Designers, and other Team Leads to define roadmaps, improve development processes, and ensure high engineering standards across the organization.

As a team lead, you will mentor and coach engineers, foster engagement and ownership, support hiring efforts, and help the team see the bigger picture when making technical and product decisions. You will remain at least 80% hands-on as part of the development team, influencing architectural decisions and driving features from concept to production in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Requirements

• Extensive expertise in the Capital Markets domain, including derivatives, securities, order management systems, and portfolio management systems.
• 5+ years of experience in Java server-side development.
• Proficient with the following technologies: Spring Boot, Spring Data JPA, Apache Kafka, PostgreSQL
• AWS cloud services
• Microservices
• 2+ years leading software development teams (3-6 developers)
• Experience with web development stack, preferably react and Node.js
• Strong knowledge of software design and a passion for creating high-standard code
• Experience in building complex, large-scale software solutions from scratch to live production
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and drive people
• Strong analytical skills
• Self-starter, fast learner, can-do attitude with strong interpersonal skills
• Excellent English communication skills – both spoken and written
• B.Sc. degree in Computer Science, SW Engineering or equivalent (M.Sc. is an advantage)

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of software developers in the design, development, testing, and deployment of Capitolis’ Capital Marketplace products
• Collaborate with Product Designers, Product Managers, and other Team Leaders to plan, nurture, and implement an efficient and effective development process
• Architect high quality, efficient and reusable back-end systems
• Lead the front end side of the product, work with designer and give feedback on the product design and usability
• Mentor team members in the technical aspects of their work
• Empower and coach the Development team, organizing their work, setting goals, and making sure they are engaged
• Recruit talented developers to Capitolis
• See the big picture of group tasks and make decisions
• Be at least an 80% hands-on developer as part of the team
• Influence the Engineering team by interacting with stakeholders outside the team
• Proven ability to work autonomously and drive tasks forward
